Beside being one
of the most favoured tourist destinations of India, Delhi also
flaunts to be a perfect hangout place. No doubt, it is justly
said 'No job, no girlfriend, nothing to do..Come to Delhi'.
Simply wandering around on the streets of this capital city,
itself gifts tourists enough memories to cherish later. The
streets pulsate with rocking activities and even rock shows
that also add a melody to the tour. Delhi is a relatively easy
city to find your way around, although it is very spread out.
The serene sectors nestles in the southern part with wide
tree-lined avenues, but still with the Indian touches of
doe-eyed cows calmly ignoring the traffic, and squatter hovels
on wasteland. Every corner unleashes a different experience
and every road takes you to a different paradise. So, what are
you waiting for? Put on your boots and jump in...
Interestingly,
Delhi bestows every tourist with a different experience,
suited as par their interests. Visit Sarojini Nagar Market, a
popular shopping joint for families staying in South Delhi.
But picking up exquisite items in an affordable price is not
the only reason that attracts thousands of Delhites everyday,
but the fun in wandering its labyrinthine lanes equipped with
colourful shops that do the job. Don't miss to savour a round
of hot 'jalebis' at the Mucchal Halwayi ki Dukaan, a name
given to this shop because its owner had real impressive
mustaches. You can also shed a few rupees to get handsome
purses or leather belts sold under the decades old sign "SAROJINI
NAGAR" at every corner of this bustling market. Get a cab and
ask the driver to take you to Lajpat Nagar, situated on the
Ring Road. The place is considered as one of the best places
to get everything under one roof as far as shopping is
concerned. A quaint fixture are the Tibetan ladies that sell
freshly steamed vegetable dumplings called "momos";steamed
right in front of you in cane basket contraptions. You can
even get into the modern 3Cs, that has been opened recently,
and is a big hub for youngsters and college-goers. You can see
people munching popcorn and sitting astride on the road side
walls, with sounds of laughter drenching your ears in breaks.
In the evenings, the whole place glimmers like a newly wed
bride with colourful lights embellishing the high-rises.
Freaking With The
Pulse of Time
The hanging hub of
Delhi is undoubtedly the Connaught Circle, or CP as it is
better known. The huge colonnaded structure houses the biggest
market place in Delhi where you can be sure of finding
anything and everything. From ivory earrings, wooden masks and
alluring necklaces, the market also houses fancy pyschedelic
T-shirts and electronic items at a much cheaper price. Avoid
strangers who might ask you to shed a few bucks in exchange of
Ray Ban sunglasses or Gucci belts. Walk a few steps keeping
the famous Jantar Mantar to your right and you'll reach
Janpath market. Don't miss the delicious 'paneer pakoras'
(cottage cheese fries) available with spicy coriander sauce,
that will linger your memories all through your stay in Delhi.
Also worth a visit is the supposedly air-con and slightly run
down Palika Bazaar. This utterly confusing underground market
with its 400 odd shops is a good place to buy electronic
gadgets and cheap leather goods. Here you can also see
teenagers buying trendy rock T-shirts or getting a shirt of
their choice and getting rubber prints on it. Alternatively,
if you want to see a brighter and opulent side for your hang
outs, move to GK (Greater Kailash) or SE (South Extension).
Fringed with multinational brand showrooms and trendy fashion
houses, these places are a big hub for aristrocrat denizens.
Eat 'chat' or momo and savour silver foil wrapped delicious 'paans'
available in cigarette shops. You can even quench your thirst
with a mug of beer in the numerous bars and discotheques that
trim the locality.
Lose Control..
If you want to see
your youth come alive right before your eyes, visit the
bustling sectors of Kamla Market, nestling at a stone's throw
from Delhi University's North Campus. The place swells with
smart college-goers and beautiful girls who find this place
exciting enough to spend their afternoons. Book stores roost
cheek by jowl with coffee shops whose mind-blowing aroma of
fresh brews enchant every passerby. Sing aloud with them, or
simply stand by and listen to the euphonic rhythms of an
accoustic guitar. |
