People in New Delhi
The culture and
people of Delhi is very rich and diverse. Deep rooted in
Indian culture with western influence makes the city very
fascinating. Sharing
its borders with Uttar Pradesh, Punjab,
Rajasthan, and Haryana influences the language of the people
as well as life-style. Although people from all over including
South Indians and Bengalies Delhi reflects the religious unity
of India. Cultural diversity makes the city rich in culture
and a constant part of history. About 85% of Delhites are
Hindus but the city does not force any offical religion on its
people.
Delhi’s diverse culture and people consists of its various
cuisine, art, craft, dance, and music. The city is a
conglomerate of varied cultures serving people with a Bengali
preparation of rassogollas, sandesh, north Indian sweet phirni,
kheer, peda, laddoo or Punjabi delicacy pinni in any of their
many dinning areas. Delhi has one of the most extensive art
galleries and art exhibitions showing off the work of artists
from all across India. A legacy of crafts is also part of the
diverse culture of Delhi. Making jewelry out of bone, the art
of Zardozi which consists of embroidery using gold thread, the
making of silver paper called varak, meenakari work, and
pottery are all major crafts practiced in Delhi. The Kamani
Auditorium in Delhi has wonderful dance programs and music
festivals showcasing the rich culture of the city. Many
Delhites love to dance at clubs which is part of the western
influence on the culture. When it comes to music you can hear
many various forms. There is a special column reserved in the
papers to list any upcoming performances or concerts in the
city. Delhi offers a wide range of cultural attractions
